I have no backfire either at sea level. Running
a 165 main jet. Needle raised up about .040 inch.
And mixture screw out 3.5 turns. I just changed
my exhaust. I'm now running a 2. pipe w/ slash
cut which I bought at Autozone for $9.99. I also
have a 8 inch baffle in it. It sounds great and
in my opinion looks much better then the supertrapp
or Jardine. From what I've heard, my bike also
runs much better with it then those pipes. But then
again no one here seems to know how to rejet for
those pipes either!! My cost $9.99 for the pipe
and $3.50 for the baffle. It is much quieter then
the Jardine or Supertrapp also and sound very mellow
and low and throaty. I can't see spending $100 to
$200 for a Jardine or Supertrapp unless you have
no mechanical skills or imagination to get any other
pipe to fit. I just used a 2. 0.D. to 1 3/4 I.D.
reducer and split the 1 3/4 side 3 times with a
cut-off saw. Then I wrapped shim stock (alluminum
foil would work) around the header pipe fit the pipe
on and used the stock clamp. I then put a cool
chrome flame heat shield over the juncture which I
bought at a Harley shop for $15.00. It looks like
I'm running a one piece drag pipe. I also made
a billet alluminum bracket which clamps onto the
rear axle to support the end of the pipe and keep
it away from the tire and brake line. The bracket
uses the same 1/4-20 allen head bolt which holds
the exhaust in. The axle end of the bracket is
a 1.125 dia. bore split in half on the saw and 2
1/4-20 bolts to clamp it to the axle. Works and
sounds and looks great!! And cost me less then
$15.00. Please don't be a sucker and buy the
Jardine in my opinion you're throwing your money
away for a very annoying loud pipe that pisses
people off and doesn't look any better then the
Autozone pipe or any used harley pipe!!
